Malcolm has played RuneScape since he was a kid, and has also dabbled with a number of the best idle games like Clicker Heroes RuneScape Gold, Cookie Clicker and NGU Idle. While he enjoyed them however, he believed that this genre could offer something more fulfilling in a way similar as Jagex's most popular RPG.
"So, I decided to challenge myself to design my own game without even imagining that it would even be released, or even become so popular," he tells GamesIndustry.biz. "I was looking to create something completely different from the existing idle game mold with a feature-rich game and offered players a option in the way they wanted to go about their lives rather than just increasing numbers continuously.
After playing around with this idea bit in the privacy of my own home I decided to combine ideas and mechanics from traditional MMOs along with the well-known idle game model, resulting in something that could be played casually, on the go and integrated into the daily routine of a gamer."
The author adds: "While the numbers and stats don't make up the majority of players are most interested in when playing MMOs However, it's what the majority of fans tend to gravitate towards after the exploration is finished. As it's often so central to what the most long-term players' attention is it's logical to integrate this feature as an integral part of Melvor's game design.
